A、 Basic concepts of thermal grease and thermal silicone gel
1. Thermal conductive silicone grease is a thermal conductive material made from advanced organic silicon compounds as the base material. It has excellent thermal conductivity, high temperature resistance, and electrical resistance, as well as good insulation, sealing, and waterproof properties, and is therefore widely used in electronic components, mechanical parts, optical instruments, air conditioning refrigeration, automobiles, and other fields.
2. Thermal conductive silicone is a thermal conductive material made from silicone as the base material. It has good thermal conductivity, good insulation, sealing, and waterproof properties, and is therefore widely used in fields such as electronic components and mechanical parts.
B、 The difference between thermal grease and thermal silicone
1. Difference 1: Different physical forms. Thermal conductive silicone grease is a paste like substance, while thermal conductive silicone gel is a gel like substance. Thermal conductive silicone grease can play a certain filling role between mechanical components, forming a good thermal conductivity path between electronic components and heat sinks. Thermal conductive silicone can be evenly applied on relatively flat surfaces. For filling irregular surfaces and optimizing the longitudinal thermal conductivity of mechanical components, thermal conductive silicone grease performs better than thermal conductive silicone.
2. Difference 2: Different thermal conductivity. Thermal grease and thermal silicone have different thermal conductivity. Generally speaking, the thermal conductivity of thermal grease is better than that of thermal silicone. The thermal conductivity of thermal conductive silicone grease is usually above 0.8W/mK, while the thermal conductivity of thermal conductive silicone is generally around 0.5W/mK. Therefore, in situations where high thermal conductivity is required, thermal grease should be preferred.
3. Difference 3: Different Application Scope Due to the filling effect and usage conditions of thermal conductive silicone grease being more limited than thermal conductive silicone, its application scope is relatively narrow. Thermal conductive silicone is widely used in electronic components, mechanical parts, optical instruments and other fields due to its good filling effect and convenient construction during use.
In short, although thermal grease and thermal silicone are both thermal conductive materials, there are some differences in physical form, thermal conductivity, and scope of use. So, when choosing thermal conductive materials, it is necessary to choose according to the actual usage situation and requirements to achieve the best thermal conductivity effect.
